Summer Camps

What makes Tree Folk a special summer camp experience?

  • Location

Our camps are located on a private property at the edge of Oregon City. We have space to roam and much to explore with 150 acres of mixed conifer forests, oak woodland, and farm land. We share the environment with newts, otters, beavers, deer, and other wildlife, as well as a few domesticated animals like chickens and sheep.

  • All Day Outside

We spend the entire day hiking, playing, creating, observing, and interacting with nature. We have a canvas tent to avoid torrential rains, a comfortable and clean composting toilet, and plenty of natural shady spots to relax out of the sun’s rays. While evapotranspiration of the surrounding trees will keep the microclimate cool, we do have a portable air conditioner for the tent in case the temperature gets over 90 degrees.

  • Experienced Educators

We hire experienced educators with an excellent teaching record to design and implement the camp curriculum. They are assisted by aspiring educators and outdoor enthusiasts to maintain at least a 10:1 student to adult ratio. Throughout the day, our teachers help kids practice social and emotional skills by emphasizing the importance of empathetic listening and collaborative problem solving.

  • Connects Kids to Nature

We introduce kids to a variety of outdoor activities to help them find what speaks to them. How do they engage with the outdoors? Is it developing and testing hypotheses about the natural world? Or constructing Andy Goldsworthy inspired art installations? Perhaps it’s building an imaginative Fairy Garden or completing physical challenges, like running, climbing, hiking, or outdoor games. We do a little bit of everything, so everyone is sure to find their niche.

  • Weekly Theme

Weekly themes tie activities together and create a fun framework to play within. Themes are intentionally broad to allow for all kinds of interpretation and creative expression.

  • Gallery Show

At the end of every week, student art will be on display in the outdoor classroom, and we’ll host a gallery show for kids to show off their creations. Not only is this a great opportunity to build confidence in kiddos, but it also reinforces their connection to nature by naming each individual item used their pieces.
